I’ve been taking
photos for a few years now, and it has become a significant part of my life.
I’m always reading reviews, watching video reviews and tutorials, and doing
everything I can to improve my knowledge and skills in the photographic field. Oh,
and I’ve been taking photos. Lots and lots of photos!
Now, after four
years, I feel like I’m ready to share my work with the world.
This is where my
photographic life gets interesting. I mean, I like my photos, I think they’re
pretty good. But are they? I really don’t know. How can I find out if my photos
are any good? Well, I thought I might ask you, the audience for my photography –
what do you think of my photos? Not the techy stuff, I know about techy stuff,
but the images themselves. Do you like them?
I also feel like
sharing my thoughts and feelings regarding photography, the photographic
process and the world of photography in general. Hence the blog!
I’ll talk about shoots I plan; the
preparation, the gear I’ll take and what I want to achieve in the shoot. I’ll
talk about how the shoots went; what worked, what didn’t, what happened during
the shoot. I’ll talk about photographic news and my opinions on topical events
in photography. I’m also, occasionally, just going to write; I have thoughts
and feelings about photography sometimes, so I’ll write about them, too.
I will be putting
up at least one blog post a week. Some weeks I may do more; a news event may
grab my attention or I might have a thought or experience I feel compelled to
share. I’ll also be putting up photos on my Google+, Instagram and Flickr pages
so you can see what I’m doing and how I’m going.
Now I’m not
trying to set myself up as an expert or a teacher or a guru. I haven’t been at
this long enough to be an expert, I’m still learning so I can’t be a teacher
and, frankly, the only gurus I would bother listening to are the Hoodoo Gurus
(Great Aussie band from my youth, check ‘em out).
No, I’m trying to
set myself up as a learner photographer, just like you, who is willing to share
his experiences so you can benefit from them. Maybe I make a mistake that you
can avoid because I shared. And maybe you’ve had an experience or learned a
technique you are willing to share with me. Maybe, just maybe, we can help each
other become better photographers.
And maybe,
hopefully, you will enjoy reading my blog, looking at my photos and sharing our
experiences in the photographic world.
